...Bring It On!
I’ve got two people to say thank you to this month (amongst others). Firstly, to a man that thinks we take him for granted – our coach Henning. We salute him for having the patience to teach fledgling lax players and also the patience to put up with as many German jokes as possible. We love him really and I’ll try hard not to say anything mean about him this month. Secondly, to the guy that works in the shop who said he holds his breath every month until he can read my latest article. Okay, maybe that’s exaggerating a little but if I don’t big myself up who will? Sorry I don’t know your name but it’s nice to see that someone is actually reading this stuff…
I’ve also promised the team that this month’s article will be shorter than the previous ones. Those of you that have gotten bored after the first few paragraphs will be delighted to see a simpler version of events this month. Personally I think you’re missing out on the chance to witness my thoughts and witty observations but hey, here are some pretty pictures for you.
The mixed game against Cambridge went as expected – a tough match against the league’s third position team. Conceding most of the goals in the first half, we went into the remainder of the game hard, fighting off the numerous Cambridge attacks and putting more pressure on their defense and keeper than had been previously seen in a Comets match. With the game ending 13 goals to our 7, it was our highest scoring match yet. The Cambridge team came here expecting an easy win, what they found was a team eager to show how developed they had become since September. There are two games left this season and we’re hoping to show both Northampton and Oxford a good couple of matches.
Two home matches and one away were no trouble for the Welwyn Warriors this month, with several Comets men's players involved. A 14-9 win against the University of Gloucester, a 14-2 win against Walcountian Blues 3 and an 8-3 win against Portsmouth University sees Welwyn remaining firm at the top of the table. With a game for double points coming up against University of Wales Institute Cardiff, a win would virtually secure promotion to the third division next year so our hopes are pretty high.
Right, I’ve talked enough. Go and do something worthwhile. Like making German’s sing the Dad’s Army theme tune at Karaoke.
Well… I said I’d try…
